Zalman Notebook Cooler – Focused Airflow Mod

Zalman Notebook Cooler ———————- Focused Airflow Modification (Mod) for ZM-NC1000 and ZM-NC2000 This is a video tutorial that I made really quick in Flash. It shows an easy mod that you can do with your Zalman Notebook Cooler to get “Focused Airflow” (or compressed airflow) to specific locations. Its best for gaming notebooks, since the GPU and CPU would get the greatest benefits from extra cooling. www.TheTechStop.net If you’re a gamer, you know that portability and performance don’t necessarily go together. Sure there have been a few notable efforts in making a mobile gaming platform, but none of them have hit that magic midpoint between price, performance and portability. Gateway wants to change all that with the release of their new P-Series of notebooks. These 10lb monsters packs a massive amount of features normally only found in high-end gaming desktops, and it does it at a price that will not require you to take our a second mortgage! @underwatercookie its like.. ice cap zone from Sonic 3, only its an OC Remix edition, you can get it off their website.. but they’ll probably have like 4 versions of it

  2. GuildofLame says:

lol, nice OC Remix version of a Sonic 3 song for the background music ;)

  3. underwatercookie says:

    What song is this? XD

  4. TOMxEU says:

I have ZM-NC2000 and undervolting decreased my temperature more than Zalman. This mod depends on notebook, but air cools down whole notebook, so it is not just about getting air into vents. Also it is better to turn it around so front would be in back, since most notebooks are overheating in back and air vents are there as well.

  5. udaygenius says:

my dell inspiron 1525 regulerly hits 80s C and the shuts down, the fans are on the bottom so i cant keep it on aything flat, you think this thing will help?

  6. gophn says:

    yes it would.

I have tested it on the fastest 18.4″ gaming notebooks… by Clevo.

  7. kohrak123 says:

will my 18″4 inch laptop fit on a cooler like that???

  8. gophn says:

the design of the notebook cooler wont allow that… I dismantled it the first day I got it to check it out.

its a very proprietary design that makes it efficient if the cooler is not taken apart.

  9. HenkSpankK says:

can’t you just remove the bottom plate and put it on the notebook cooler ?

  10. Bronnster says:

    @Kotapaka,
I have an Clevo M590K 19″ laptop with multi intake ports underneath. This video rocks for my needs.

  11. Bronnster says:

Umm, my intakes are at the bottom of my notebook. So yeah, you’re mistaken taintedsoul17

  12. gophn says:

you are mistaken. 99% of notebook on the market intake air from the bottom and exhausts the hot air on the back/sides.

  13. taintedsoul17 says:

great…except for the fact that you’re pushing focused air into the fans that are trying to push air out…more than likely making it harder to exhaust the air…

  14. Antebios says:

My Clevo D901C (aka. Sager 9262) with Q6600 (I know I need to upgrade to the Q9650) has four fan on the bottom as well (they use the same chasis). Plus, my 3 hard drives get pretty hot. CLEVO RULEZ!!!

  15. shrint says:

anyone tried using a zalman with this mod and done and temperature test, then done the same temperature test without the mod and compared? that would be interesting

also, nice song – i recognized it immediately, a remix of ice cap zone from sonic the hedgehog 3. memories :)

  16. gophn says:

obviously you have not seen the world’s fastest notebooks (most of which are by Clevo). Alienware used to carry Clevo’s until they moved onto Arima and Quanta.

That notebook of mine is a Clevo D900K (aka. Sager NP9750, Alienware m7700a).

The current high-end Clevo D900F (aka. Sager NP9280) with desktop Core i7 has four fan placements as well.

  17. kotapaka says:

My laptop has only 1 fan. Only 1 opening at the bottom. This one has 5. How is this possible? Even alienware don’t have 5 openings.

  18. IamJayKwon says:

    zalman rocks!

  19. Nostradamus1008 says:

    great idea,dude
will try it out myself with my Zalman ;)

  20. Lisutbg says:

damn….great idea…I have to try this with my N50Vn Asus because I just DON’T notice any difference with Zallman 2000 or not right now, because my N50Vn’s vents are randomly placed and are quite tight…

  21. 01DaeM10 says:

    lol!

how easy can brilliant sollutions be… :P

  22. PwnagePC says:

Lol, I knew it was Sonic right off the bat.

  23. aznballa33 says:

Hey its the awesome Gophn! haha, I think I’m definitely getting the Zalman now.

  24. gophn says:

    google: notebook coolers buyers guide

it should bring you to the NBR site that will show you what notebook coolers is best for a particular notebook

  25. greatblackfrog says:

hey i just got the nc2000 today. it looks great. but the only thing is that it doesnt cool my laptop as much as i expected. When i play games without it it would go up to 60C but with the chill mat it went down by like 1-2Cs… do u have any tips for cooling other than the custom way?

  26. gadgettts says:

    @o0Deano2k80o,

True… but isn’t that the way with ALL technology? — After all, this review IS from more than 2 years ago.

  27. o0Deano2k80o says:

  31. gadgettts says:

    DeathToTheseWalls,

Such is the life of a nerd! — That’s one of the reasons why I never buy “bleeding edge” products. (Think first iPhone, first laptop, first OLED screen, etc.) They may be cool, and I like to review them so that I can show people what’s around the corner, but either wait two months or buy the third unit from the top to hit the price-performance sweet spot.

    Peace,
    Fr. Robert

  32. DeathToTheseWalls says:

The modern-day model of this laptop costs $1050.

Changes in technology changes never cease to shock me.

  46. gadgettts says:

    orland44football,

That’s not a hardware problem. Check the BIOS and the power saving setting. You want to disallow the “Wake Up” due to LAN or USB activity.
    .
    Peace,
    Fr. Robert

  47. cardazio says:

I asked you in a message, not here. The reason was I didn’t know youtube blocks url:s in the posts. I also wrote you a message 5 minutes later (long before you posted this message) that I was wrong and apologized.

  48. cardazio says:

If we put everything else aside – you won’t get 24 fps with that laptop with the settings maxed. In max settings AA is included.

Although I do like the thorough overview regarding the specs and appearance.

  49. gadgettts says:

In the end, if we are helpful, entertaining or provokative in any way, then I consider what we do to be a success. If not, then I thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment.

Listen, I appreciate your input… and believe me when I say that I’ve heard the same complaint many times before… but this is the way that I review. I do this in my free time because I really enjoy playing with good technology. I don’t make a living off of it, nor do any of our production sponsors pay us anything for a good review.
