The Gamers Laptop-Asus N51V

Post Rating

This is one of the gaming laptops of the year.  Hewlett Packard have always been known for their cool design.  This is one laptop that looks very similar to them.  Initial looks are nice, it is quite shiny.  It is a 15.6 inch lappy, with a screen resolution of 1366×768.  It won’t win any awards for size or it’s massive screen, but if you just need gaming on the go, it is still excellent.

The mouse pad, buttons and keyboard are all good, nothing to write home about, but good.

Gaming Goodness

It comes equipped with Windows Vista 32bit (although as of the time of writing, I’m sure you can get Windows 7 upgraded)  It has 2 gig of ram, wiressless N, bluetooth gigabit ethernet and a blue ray drive.  The cpu is an Intel core 2 duo T9500 2.66 (schweet).   It’s got a 500mb hard drive and Nvidia’s Geoforce GT 130M that has the grunty 1024 of RAM.  This is perfect for running those games.

Now this is the good model that will be able to run all of the games you need.  Asus have chucked in 2 other models, the N51F with a 2.53ghz processor and dvd drive instead of the blu-ray and the NV51VG which has a video capability of a 512mb card and 2.0 ghz cpu.

Now, if you wanted to make sure your work environment was clean and ionised, Asus have included it’s Air ioniser in the laptop. OK then……………..nice one Asus.  No more sneezing and allergic reactions around the laptop (/em raises eyebrows and smiles).

Overall

This is an excellent laptop for your gaming needs.  It performs really well in the benchmark utilities.  Running on the battery only, cranking along, you will get over 1 1/2 hours before the lights go out.  Pretty good but not sensational.  It is a very good bang for buck laptop.

PROS:  Great graphics, Value is top notch

CONS:  Laptop performance comes at a cost to reduced battery time, fingerprints on the glossy screen (bah, they all have em hey)

If you are looking at buying one of these sweet babies,  Amazon.com are offering 15% off, that’s around $200 buckeroos.  That’s more cash to spend on coke and pizza.  Yumm….
